The American technology giant Microsoft on December 26, 2013 launched the new safety application ‘Guardian,’ that will help friends and families of Windows Phone users to track them in real time.
In a statement released regarding the new app launch Microsoft said, “Available exclusively for Windows Phone users, Guardian’s ‘track me’ feature allows friends and family to track them using Microsoft Windows Azure cloud services and Bing Map APIs.”
“Guardian users can call for help through an ‘SOS’ alert button and also connect to security agencies, police and hospitals easily via this app in times of distress,” said Microsoft.
Guardian has been developed by a group of Microsoft employees in India, who took over six months to complete the project. It was developed under Microsoft Garage, a global employee innovation initiative at Microsoft which gives employees an opportunity to use their creative ideas for innovation.
Managing Director of Microsoft IT India Raj Biyani said in a statement, “Our employees wanted to do something to enable people to feel safer in our cities. So they used their spare time to develop Guardian.” He claimed, “Guardian is a robust personal security app with more safety features and capabilities than any other comparable app available to Indian smartphone users today.”
Before using Guardian, users have to add the names of friends, family members and security groups to the device settings. In case of an emergency, users can use the app to alert their family, friends and family members by using the SOS button.
